Gary woman discovers her dog fatally shot in her fenced front yard | Crime and Courts

GARY — A woman told police she heard gunfire and saw a man drive away Monday before discovering her dog had been fatally shot, police said.

The 42-year-old Gary woman told police her pitbull was in her fenced front yard about 3:40 p.m. when she heard what sounded like gunshots, Lt. Dawn Westerfield said.

She looked out and saw a heavy-set black man get into a blue Ford, possibly a Crown Victoria, and drive away. She did not recognize the man, police said.

The woman took her dog to a veterinarian’s office, where it died.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Sgt. Darlene Breitenstein at 219-881-1229. To remain anonymous, call 866-CRIME-GP.
